Amanda wins Baltimore 10 Miler!
University of Maryland Heart Center Baltimore 10 Miler, June 20th, 2009

RVA was well represented this weekend as Amanda Luksetich took 1st female overall in the Baltimore 10 miler. Amanda battled heavy rain, thunder and lightening to hold off the competition and break the tape with an event record time of 1:07:30. Congratulations on a fantastic race, Amanda! RVA Runners strong showing this Spring!
US Vets 5K, Delaware Marathon, James River Scramble 10K, Run the Crater 8 miler, Carytown 10K

RVA Runners are on a roll this Spring! The team has been posting great results in recent races. Amanda Luksetich took 1st female overall in the US Vets 5K with a time of 18:57, while Holly Baker-Wong finished the Delaware Marathon with a time of 3:14:35 to take 5th female overall. Laura Hamlin tackled the James River Scramble off-road 10K to finish 3rd female overall in 48:18, and Kevin Burcham placed 2nd overall in the Run the Crater 8 Miler in 46:42. Brian Shelton, John Sharp, and Sarah Dormon all placed in the top 5 of their divisions at the Carytown 10K. Great job to everyone that raced! (more results)

Kristen Balla takes 5th at the Little Rock Marathon!
Little Rock, Arkansas - March 15, 2009

With a time of 3:12:16 Kristen Balla was the 5th female to cross the finish line at the Little Rock Marathon on Sunday, March 15th. Placing 2nd in her age group, Kristen averaged a 7:21 pace over the course to land a 3-minute marathon PR! Congratulations to Kristen! (see full results)

RVA Runners Conquer Colonial Half
Colonial Half Marathon - February 22, 2009

Brian Shelton and Kristen Balla led the RVA team to a strong finish at the 30th annual Colonial Half Marathon in Williamsburg. on Sunday. Balla smartly paced the hilly Colonial course to finish as the 9th female overall with a time of 1:32:48, while Shelton took first place in his division with a time of 1:19:07. Tyler Kidd, Mike Davi, Kevin O'Connor, Kirsten Webb, Jennifer Fox, and Terry Miffleton all placed in the top 10 in their respective divisions. Great job to everyone that raced! (see full results)

2008 WRR Runner Rankings
Washington Running Report - December, 2008

RVA's Gerrit Labuschagne was ranked 3rd for this year's WRR runner rankings in the 45-49 age group. WRR reports "Gerrit Labuschagne of Richmond, VA laid down the gauntlet early in the period, finishing top master at the Glen Allen 5K for Autism in 16:59. A week later he ventured north to race the Georgetown 8K in 27:39". And at the recent Toy Run 5K, Gerritt finished top 5 overall and won his age group. See all results for the season at WRR. (more)

Holly handily wins Marshall Marathon!

Holly Baker Wong led the female marathon finishers, with a time of 3:12.48, nearly 10 minutes ahead of the field! Women’s runnerup Gretchen Stipe, 45, posted a time of 3:22. Fellow RVA runners John Sharp ran 2:54:33 for 4th place, Kevin Burcham ran 3:06:05, Jeff Fitzgerald ran 3:13:11, and Ivan Wu ran 3:16:24. A total of 342 runners posted finishing times for the Marathon and 401 finished the Half-Marathon. (see full results)

Shelton, Luksetich Romp in Patrick Henry Half Marathon
Washington Running Report - August 23, 2008
Brian Shelton (in photo) and Amanda Luksetich each won their first career half marathons at the Patrick Henry Half Marathon. Shelton (29) of Richmond who made his decisive move four miles into the race from a three-man lead group, won by well more than a minute in 1 hour 17 minutes and 37 seconds for his first half marathon victory. Luksetich (26), a winner of two marathons in 2007, the Oklahoma City Marathon and the Marshall University Marathon, claimed her first career half marathon by almost four minutes with a time of 1:25:25. RVA Runners Race Results - August 23, 2008
The results speak for themselves. First, second and seventh place overall for the men, and a 1, 2, 3 result for the women. No less than 7 first place showings in their divisions. And another 6 second place division results. This is one of the most impressive team showings for RVA to date. 2002 challenge has Kevin Burcham running

Some people can’t start the day without a cup of coffee. Some need a warm shower or a specific breakfast. For Colonial Heights resident Kevin Burcham it’s running. His first marathon was the 25th running of the Richmond Marathon in 2002. His boss challenged him to run in the race. Neither man ran much but after seeing an ad in a YMCA brochure both thought it was possible. They downloaded a training program from the Internet and began running together. On April 21, the Petersburg native completed his third Boston Marathon and 13th marathon overall since 2002. (more)

Boyer shares his new title with such business luminaries as Ben & Jerry's founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. The award has been granted annually for more than four decades. RVA Runners Team Results Boston
112th Boston Marathon, April 21, 2008
RVA Runners put in a strong team performance at the 2008 Boston Marathon. In the Women's Open Team event, RVA placed 12th with strong runs by Amanda, Holly and Tricia. In the Men's Open Team event, Kevin, Mike and Tyler placed 46th overall. In the Men's Masters team events, David, Sean and Greg placed 60th overall. (more)

Smith puts in personal best at Olympic Marathon Trials

The Olympic Marathon Trials were held the day before the Boston Marathon, and 2004 Olympic bronze medalist Deena Kastor came from behind to win in 2:29:35. RVA Runner Casey Smith, who won the Richmond Marathon last fall, finished 24th in a personal best 2:40:53. (more)

Chuck Engle, a 36-year-old from Columbus, Ohio, works for MarathonGuide.com, a Web site devoted to the sport. Engle came to town and set a course record with a time of 2 hours, 34 minutes to win the Marshall University Marathon. Amanda Luksetich took the women's race with a time of 2:57. (more)

RVA Runners Top Women's Divisions at Patrick Henry Half Marathon

There were 1,117 finishers for Virginia's newest running event, which is named after Hanover County's famous Colonial-era patriot, Patrick Henry, who proclaimed the Revolutionary War's rallying cry, "Give me liberty or give me death." Emily Ward takes XTERRA James River Scramble

Despite its reputation as a grueling trail run, the XTERRA James River Scramble 10K proved the perfect start of Richmond's eclectic two-day outdoors sports festival, the James River Adventure Games. In the women's division, Emily Ward outran fellow Richmond resident Laura Hamlin for the win. Ward's time was 43:52. (more)
